FRANKENSTEIN :)

Hey guys,

here the summery of our last lesson...(we talked about Frankenstein)

Frankenstein is a gothic novel written by Mary Shelley (19th Century).

It's about  a man who creates a monster which has actually no name.

The name Frankenstein is only a short version of the book's name. The real name is:

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus

Prometheus is a Greek mythology about the god Prometheus who was punished by Zeus because he stole a bit of Zeus' fire. This subtitle is an allusion to the fact that there is a parallel between Prometheus and her "hero" Victor, who is afraid and so, punished by his creature...

The novel was published in 1818. At that time, it wasn't possible to create creatures so it was a theft of god's ideas...

In general, it was a warning against sciences, in which the people of the 19th Century were afraid...

Now, I'll check out the WebQuests for our homework...

See you!

"It's an allusion to M. Shelley who "stole" the idea of the creation of a creature from god"<br /> <br /> I'm afraid you didn't quite understand who stole what from whom.<br /> <br /> It is basically Prometheus who stole the fire from God. By choosing to subtitle her novel'The Modern Prometheus', M.Shelly alludes to the episode when Prometheus was punished for having <br /> stolen fire. The fact remains that she also draws a parallel between her hero or anti hero 'Victor' with the ancient Prometheus.<br /> <br /> I hope that will be understandable.<br /> <br /> Bye.
